Paths

"I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free".... Running in the path of any trail can be tricky. Since I am a runner there have been many times when the running path is a huge puddle, full of blackberry thornes, or has hidden roots which make me trip bu how different the path of God's commands. They are pure and clear of all distractions there is nothing there to trip me up. It does not always seem clear to me when I first try to read the commands but after time with the Lord he will usually always reveal the truth that he wants me to know. What a benefit to have my heart set free.. Free from all the pains, doubts and sorrows of this world. God is good he provides so much more than we need.

I love this visual...

As a runner (wink) too, this visual just thrills me. I'm imagining running and feeling light, and free. Obeying the Lord provides this freedom. Interesting that so many people believe the opposite - that the "rules" laid out in Christianity are stifling....Rather, they bring freedom and joy!

I also was encouraged by "running in the path of his commandments". The last half of that verse impressed me, too. In the NASB it says "for You will enlarge my heart". I envisioned an athelete developing his lung and heart capacity by his constant training and regular exercise. I want to run my race well, and I'm counting on Him to enable me by increasing my capacity for His truth. Every time I act on it, it strengthens me for the next decision. He'll keep me in the race, running on the right path.

I have to say that sometimes when I read certain verses I get a heavy feeling because it'll say, for example, in vs 44 I will always obey your law, for ever and ever.

I KNOW I will most likely NOT obey His law always because I am by human nature, a sinner. However, when I re-read and come upon vs 39-40 which says: Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good. How I long for your precepts! Renew my life in your righteousness. I then feel better because I know He has done this for me when I accepted Him into my heart and continue to surrender my will and my life over to Him.

As I am reminded of this and accept this free gift from Him, it makes me WANT to be obedient to his law and commands!! How awesome is that?!
